What types of lessons do you offer?
We offer lessons on many instruments and voice, and can work with beginners or advanced students. We can also give lessons on a variety of other topics such as improvisation, composition and music theory. Take a look at our Lessons & Pricing page for instruments we teach.
What is a typical lesson like?
The student will set up his/her instrument, the instructor will tune it if needed, then they will warm up and review the material the student practiced for the week. Mistakes are corrected and new material is introduced. The student will practice that material over the course of the following week.
How long is each lesson?
Lessons can be taken for 30 minutes or 60 minutes, typically at the same time each week.
How often do you recommend that we have lessons?
30 minutes once per week works best for most students. If more lesson time is desired with the teacher we recommend 60 minutes once per week or two 30 minute lessons per week.
Can I take lessons every other week?
Yes, budget conscious students may take lessons every other week as a more affordable option. However, since lessons will be less frequent, students will need to be self-motivated to practice in order to progress.
Do you do in-home lessons or must we come to you?
All lessons are given at our studio, conveniently located in Historic Dublin, Ohio.
How old does the student have to be to start lessons?
Most children can start by the time they're 5 years old. For children 4 years and younger, we suggest parents check out programs like Kindermusik, WeJoySing, or Musikgarten. All these programs expose young children to the basics of music in a fun and supportive group environment and build a solid foundation for later success in the type of private lessons we offer.
How much do lessons cost?
For specific pricing please refer to our Lessons & Pricing page.
What types of payments do you accept?
All major credit cards and debit cards are welcome. We can also set up an automatic withdrawal from a savings or checking account.
Is there a contract or long commitment?
No, we just ask that you sign a simple policy sheet and give us 30 days notice to quit lessons.
What do we do if the student can’t attend a lesson?
Please call as soon as you know and we will reschedule your lesson. Students are limited to 1 late rescheduled lesson every 3 months. Less than 3 days notice is considered a late rescheduling. After 1 late rescheduled lesson, no lessons may be rescheduled. If you simply forget, or fail to call us, you forfeit that lesson.
What holidays do you observe?
First Choice Music Studio is closed on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve. We do not offer make up lessons for these holidays because we believe they're offset by the 5th lessons all students receive.
Can we change to a different day or time after we get started?
Yes, just let us know if you need a new day or time and we will offer other options to fit your schedule.
Where are you located?
Our main location is in downtown Dublin behind Brazenhead restaurant, one block off N High. A really good, but confusing landmark at the corner of North St and N. High is a sign showing the way to the parking lot for 100 N. High. It actually points right down North St. toward our building! Our north Columbus location is on Indianola just north of Morse Rd. Please check the Contact Us page on this website for exact details and photos.
What can parents do during the lesson?
Parents may sit in on the lesson, wait in the waiting area, or run errands at the library or nearby stores and shops. We have free WiFi available, so feel free to bring your smart phones and tablets.
Do you give student recitals?
We offer 3 student recitals per year. The recitals are typically held Late Winter, Summer and Fall. Recitals are free - so bring friends, relatives, anyone and everyone! Students of all levels are strongly encouraged to attend - beginners play their first short pieces and the advanced students really shine.
When can we start?
Immediately! We just have to find a time that works with your schedule and our teachers' schedule.
